OSX YOSEMITE FINAL RELEASE 10.10 (Not Beta or Preview)

Apple’s WWDC 2014 keynote is just a few hours away, but some leaks emerged late Sunday offering a preview of what Apple fans can expect from the next version of OS X, “10.10.”

Photos posted to reddit Sunday night, and verified by MacRumors, reveal the continued merger in the designs of OS X and iOS, with the purported OS X 10.10 screenshots demonstrating a number of iOS 7-inspired elements.

MacRumors has removed the images at the request of the reddit user who initially posted them, so we won’t re-post them here. We were, however, able to view the images before their removal (Update: the original poster has contacted us directly as well and asked us to remove the link to where a third party was hosting the images).

Control Center for OS X: The first image reveals a new Control Center interface for OS X that lives on the left side of the screen, opposite the existing Notification Center. With a frosted glass transparent design, the purported OS X Control Center closely mirrors the look of that on iOS, with the ability to manage Wi-Fi, volume, iTunes playback, AirPlay, and sleep settings. There are also new icons at the bottom of the interface that appear to show user account management and power features.

Enhanced Notification Center: Moving to the right of the screen, the second image reveals an enhanced Notification Center that again matches the look of Notification Center in iOS 7, with a black semi-transparent background, live calendar and stocks, and large date stamp at the top of the window.

New Safari Design: The third image shows a new Safari design, with a muted flat look once again reminiscent of iOS 7. Apple appears to be abandoning the “Top Sites” card design in favor of Chrome-like buttons for popular or frequently accessed websites.

New Search Features? The fourth image shows a new search window floating over the aforementioned Safari window. Users appear to be able to search at the top of the window, with results appearing below in a left-hand column while a live Quick Look preview appears for each selected result on the right. Like all of the images, however, the image is blurry, preventing a clear look at the supposedly new feature.

2D Dock: Based on the sheer popularity of this article, the return of a 2D Dock will be met with cheering in the streets. All of the leaked images clearly show a 2D dock on the bottom of the screen, something that Apple prevented users from obtaining in Mavericks. Although blurry, the design of the dock appears to mirror the look of the Mavericks dock when pinned to the right or left of the display.

All of the images appear to have been taken on March 24th, so major changes could have taken place since then. With Apple widely expected to unveil the next version of OS X during its Monday keynote, Apple fans don’t have long to wait to see the full OS in action.
